I started painting a 15mm Avar army with Slav allies (i.e. conscripts) three years ago and I'm glad to say that it is finished. The Gallic types in this Corvus Belli vignette blend in nicely with the Slavic infantry and I think I'll be able to use this camp with future armies as well.
The dimensions of an Impetus camp are roughly double what would be used for DBA, or in Impetus terms, the equivalent of two Impetus cavalry bases (8x6 cm). Rather than make one large rectangular bases, I actually used two cavalry bases which I will place side-by-side on the table to make my camp.

When the two bases are place together, the scene will depict a cart and followers driving down a road with a driver out front pointing the way forward. I like this concept of using two 8x6 cm rectangles for camps and will likely continue the practice in the future.
When I built my Armagnac camp some years ago, I built it as one large 12x8 cm base. It turned out nice and I love it, however it will only ever be useful for Impetus.

For me, the entire issue is likely academic, as Impetus is the only mass battle game I've ever played. However, if you are on the brink of building your first Impetus camp, I would strongly recommend following the "two cavalry base approach," just to keep your options open.
